Collection of Artifacts

The museum collects cultural materials representing the scope of human activities, thoughts and endeavors within the geographic confines of Marathon County, or outside of that region if the materials are significant to Marathon County History. Our curators, Kathy Jansen and Linda Forbess review all potential artifact donations and determine if the items are appropriate for our collection. See Making A Donation if you have an item that you would like to donate.

The museum will continue to build its collections within the practical constraints of storage and exhibit space, staff time, and funds for acquisition and conservation. Artifacts in the permanent collections must possess exhibit, education or research potential while not resulting in substantial conservation or storage liabilities.

Our artifacts can be viewed through exhibits and artifact programs. The artifacts displayed are rotated annually and choosen based on the current exhibit theme. We also offer several artifact programs that allow us to bring our artifacts to you.
