The Marathon County Historical Library houses a vast collection of books, photographs, postcards and documents relating to Marathon County's History.

We are continually building our online database to make our records easily available. If the information you are looking for is not available online, please contact us or visit our library.

The Marathon County Historical Society's Library is housed on the first floor of the A.P. Woodson House at 410 McIndoe Street, Wausau, Wisconsin.

The library is open to the public Tuesday thru Thursday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.

We also offer Research By Request to assist those who cannot visit us during the time we are open.

Access to all library material is free to anyone visiting our library. Photocopies are available for $.25 per copy. See our Photographs and Postcards Usage Policy below for additional charges that may apply. Research requests submitted to us from outside the library will be charged a $10.00 per hour research fee.

The library maintains a large collection of photographs and postcards in order to preserve an invaluable photographic history of the area. Archival storage techniques are used to preserve our negatives and prints. Researchers are welcome to review our photographs and postcards under the close supervision of our librarian. The original photographs or postcards are not allowed to leave the library, however, reproductions or electronic scans can be requested and will be billed according to the Photo Reproduction Costs table below. A credit line for published reproductions of our photographs or postcards is required and should read: "Courtesy of the Marathon County Historical Museum" or "From the Collection of the Marathon County Historical Museum".
